A winning business gets a winning logo in the Logo in a Day Challenge

The Logo in a Day Challenge is an annual premium product giveaway for one lucky client. To launch Blue Lane Creative with a splash, this challenge was created to help a new client in need of their own logo to launch their business…in a single day. (a real logo project typically takes weeks, not a single day).

Targeted towards mission-focused businesses, it was a fun, quick process where the client was open to doing things a little differently and the results were better than imagined.

Here’s the overview:

I met with my new client, Selestine Overholser, owner of Sophia Sound Sanctuary. SSS is a boutique business specializing in sound therapy derived from ancient methods used to heal physical, mental, emotional ailments. Together, we walked through a condensed version of a brand discovery workshop where I learned everything from visual inspiration, target audience and brand vision. A few key takeaways and ideas key for this logo were:

A few key takeaways and ideas that pushed forward the inspiration for the logo were:

  1. Flow & femininity

  2. Lotus flower, not a typical lotus, but a more streamlined, egyptian style lotus

  3. Movement is an important quality

  4. The letter ‘S’ is a significant letter

  5. Should feel like a fresh version of something vintage

  6. Logo should feel activating

  7. Ideal client is someone open to alternative healing

  8. Color-wise, we’ll create a mark that is a metalic, and use a supportive dark violet/blue and white

Here are some of the initial sketches while thinking through ideas:

I chose two concept options to present that best met the vision of the client:

Option 1: S Monogram

This option puts the letter ‘S’ front and center. With a three-word business name all beginning with the letter ‘S’, a monogram absolutely had to be one of the top options. The flowing foliage acts as a backdrop and adds movement and the oval border and small details give it an old world in a new way look.

Option 2: Blooming Lotus

This option used a custom designed, atypical lotus design as the focal point supported by foliage with movement. The arch shape gives a nod to the past, and the clean typography make the old feel new again.

Drum roll………the winning design was……..

The BLOOMING LOTUS!

I added a supportive dark violet-blue to the white and gold color palette giving plenty of contrast and flexibility, and created a horizontal version for flexibility.

….And, it’s a wrap! Successful, quick logo project in the books!

But, not so fast, I have to give a lot of credit to the wonderful Selestine Overholster for being an open, willing collaborator with so much heart and readiness for this project. She was wonderful to work with and for. A big congratulations to us both for launching our businesses with a fresh new logo!

"I love my logo. Completing quickly was fantastic. We began with clarity and stayed focused. We put into the design only what I dreamed of and left everything else out. Cason leads with a creative precision that's smooth and powerful. Her questions and deep listening in our meetings held the dialog tight and light. I felt heard and supported in bringing my vision to earth. It's tangible now and my heart feels happy."
